Magnificent fjordland explorer in summertime

Including the Summer Bank Holiday, this week long cruise is simply padded with beauty and splendour. So much beauty and splendour is packed into this week long cruise that you’ll feel you’ve been away for much longer.  Norway’s fjords are stunning in their majesty – tranquil blue waters lapping at lush green slopes, rising to towering peaks.  You will want to spend hours just standing at the ship’s rail in the clean air, gazing at granite cliffs punctuated by waterfalls, remote mountain farms and pretty villages nestling in the valleys.

After a day at sea, you awake to find yourself amid the breathtaking beauty of the serene and tranquil Hardangerfjord. A brief stop is made at tiny Ulvik to disembark those passengers who are taking the overland tour to Eidfjord and rejoining the ship in the afternoon. At Eidfjord, gaze at the rugged mountain slopes and view one of Norway’s most famous waterfalls, Vøringsfossen, cascading 182 metres into the wild valley below.  Nestled between high cliffs at the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the Sognefjord, is Flåm, terminus of the incredible Flåmsbana. The optional Flåm Railway tour may well be the highlight of your cruise. Take in the scenery from the ship’s rail as Marco Polo sails along the mighty Sognefjord. Set amid mountains with beautifully restored old farmhouses, Hellesylt offers a magnificent excursion option to picturesque Geiranger at the head of the Geirangerfjord, considered by many to be the most beautiful fjord in Norway. The delightful old Hanseatic port of Bergen is your final call where you can explore the historic Bryggen district, the heart of the medieval city with its beautifully restored wooden warehouses. Then all too soon Marco Polo takes a south-westerly course back to Tilbury.
