A relaxing day at sea precedes a call at the old Spanish port of Gijón with its Palacio de Revillagigedo, a neo-Renaissance folly with towers and battlements, delightful marina and beaches beyond. The Basque fishing port of St. Jean de Luz offers cultural sightseeing and lazy relaxation. Visit the church of St-Jean-Baptiste and the Maison Louis XIV, wander the covered markets or take an optional tour to Bayonne at the junction of Basque and French cultures. Le Verdon gives an opportunity to visit Bordeaux with its elegant streets, fine 18th century merchants’ houses and world famous wines. Continue northwards to Brest on the Brittany coast, rich in maritime history. Stroll along the promenade, explore the castle and naval museum, and then relax with a Breton crêpe and cider. Marco Polo drops anchor off St Mary’s in the beautiful Isles of Scilly with an excursion option to Tresco’s famous Abbey Gardens before reaching St. Peter Port on Guernsey, where a captivating blend of Georgian, Regency and Parisian houses gives it a charming Anglo-French style. Finally enjoy Honfleur, retreat of the French Impresionists, with its picturesque marina surrounded by a jumble of narrow streets and alleys and gateway to the beautiful Normandy countryside.
Special Guest Act - ‘Chris Dean & The Syd Lawrence Orchestra’ – Voted "Best Big Band in the Land" for the 11th consecutive year, Chris Dean's Syd Lawrence Orchestra continues to thrill audiences and Cruise & Maritime Voyages are delighted to welcome them back to Marco Polo by popular demand. Renowned for their exciting blend of high octane Big Band Swing and Classic Dance Music, the Orchestra’s repertoire ranges from the wartime million sellers of the legendary Glenn Miller through the era of the great Count Basie Orchestra to the hit songs of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.
