A treasure trove of architecture and art
If history, architecture and culture are on your wish list, then this wonderful voyage is just for you! The Baltic Sea has a rich maritime heritage and perhaps nowhere else will you find so many fascinating cities clustered in so small an area. Each destination is individual and this trip will enable you compare them – majestic palaces, vast museums, cobbled streets and delightful harbour fronts – they’re all yours to discover |
Enjoy a day at sea as you sail to wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen, home of the Little Mermaid, Amalienborg Palace, the colourful Nyhavn area and the magical Tivoli Gardens. From the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde, discover the beautiful Hanseatic city of Rostock or highlights of historic Berlin. A restful day at sea brings you to the medieval city of Tallinn with its turrets, spires and winding cobbled streets set on a hillside above the bay. St Petersburg, by contrast, offers imperial grandeur – splendid cathedrals and royal palaces with gilded domes and minarets and soaring fountains. An overnight stay here, with a comprehensive choice of carefully arranged shore excursions, will allow you to experience the Russia of the Tsars and soak up the history. The sea-faring city of Helsinki, dominated by the spectacular onion-domed Uspensky Cathedral, centres around the historic harbour; linger in the Esplanade Park or discover fine Finnish architecture on Mannerheim Street. Stockholm is another waterfront city, ideal for walking and gazing, with its grand public buildings and the quaint Gamla Stan old town – a tumble of winding lanes and boutiques packed with curiosities. Sadly your voyage comes to an end as Marco Polo glides through the famous Kiel Canal and home to Tilbury.
