Summer escape to islands in the sun

Voyage south to the ever-popular Canary Islands on this wonderful summer sunshine cruise. Enjoy contrasting calls at three beautiful islands, the historic cities of Oporto and Vigo, and relaxing days at sea to fully enjoy the facilities and entertainment aboard Ocean Countess.  It’s an opportunity to soak up some magnificent scenery, wander through historic streets, sample a rich variety of seafood, indulge in holiday shopping, or simply relax in pleasant surroundings.

A relaxing two days at sea offers the opportunity to enjoy the facilities, daytime activities and evening entertainment on board Ocean Countess. Your first call is Leixoes from where you may visit Oporto on the banks of the Duoro River. Famous for its Port wine, Oporto is the seat of centuries of Portuguese culture. Funchal on the “garden isle” of Madeira nestles in a beautiful setting. Visit the beautiful Botanical Gardens, travel on the cable car or take the famous toboggan ride by wicker basket. Your discovery of the Canary Islands begins at pretty Santa Cruz de La Palma, once a port connecting routes to the Americas, with a legacy of palaces, colonial buildings and traditional Canary architecture to discover. La Palma features the Caldera de Taburiente, one of the most impressive volcanic craters in the world. Dominated by Mount Teide, Tenerife is renowned for its beach resorts, and the island’s capital of Santa Cruz offers a number of museums and churches to visit together with tempting shops. Your final call is Vigo, Spain’s biggest fishing port, where the strong maritime history has left an appealing old town with a labyrinth of winding narrow streets before setting a course home to Greenock.
