After a day at sea, you awake to find yourself cruising the splendid Hardangerfjord, where sheer mountainsides plunge into the tranquil waters. Passengers taking the overland tour disembark at pretty Ulvik and rejoin the ship in Eidfjord in the afternoon. Eidfjord is the gateway to the Hardanger plateau and Norway’s largest National Park. Journey now into the mighty Sogne, Norway’s longest fjord, and call at Flåm, nestled between high cliffs at the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord. Here is the terminus of the incredible Flåmsbana that climbs up a 1 in 18 gradient to Myrdal. The optional Flåm Railway tour could be the highlight of your cruise. In the late afternoon Marco Polo cruises the beautiful and dramatic Nærøyfjord where from the ship’s rail, you may view delightful Gudvangen. At Bergen, a huddle of quaint old timber buildings on the wharf shelters shared alleyways, fragile balconies and narrow stairways; this is the medieval Bryggen district.  Further along the front is the bustling fish market selling a fascinating array of sea food, while the nearby funicular climbs to the top of Mount Fløyen for a spectacular view.  Spend a relaxing day at sea with a final evening’s entertainment before arriving back in Tilbury.
