Hull was announced as the winner of the UK City of Culture 2017 back in 2013. The award is given every 4 years to a city that demonstrates the belief in the transformational power of culture.
The arts and cultural programme for the year is set to run from 1st January all the way through to 31st December celebrating the unique character of the city, its people, history and geography.
Artists and residents of Hull will come together throughout 2017 to make Hull a cultural destination for must-see events.
‘Hull UK City of Culture 2017’, the company set up by Hull City Council will be giving every young person of school age the opportunity to participate in 2017 as well as engaging 4,000 volunteers from across the city to help deliver this year.
Cruise from Hull
2017 also means a new season of cruises departing from Hull for Cruise & Maritime Voyages. This year in June & July the Marco Polo will be using Hull as her regional base as she travels across Europe, giving the residents of Hull and surrounding areas the change to experience our No-Fly Traditional British Cruises.
Marco Polo will be giving passengers the chance to visit the breath-taking Fjords of Norway, the ‘Land of Fire & Ice’ – Iceland, Baltic Capitals and St. Petersburg as well as arctic Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Passengers will not only have the chance this year to celebrate culture in Hull, but also take in the culture of these beautiful destination across Europe.
