Your first call is at the pretty village of Eidfjord, at the head of an arm of the splendid Hardangerfjord, with the option to visit the vast Hardangervidda plateau and Vøringsfossen, probably Norway’s most famous waterfall. At the end of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the mighty Sognefjord which is Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, lies charming Flåm. Here is the terminus for the Flåmsbana, the famous mountain railway which climbs to a height of 866 metres passing through 20 tunnels which is undoubtedly one of the most popular fjordland excursions. Enjoy the fabulous scenery as you cruise along the majestic Sognefjord. By contrast, today is spent in the old Hanseatic town of Bergen with its busy harbour-side fish market. Valmai Miller is an ex-teacher, with a special interest in traditional crafts, and on this cruise she will be introducing you to Parchment and the skill of English patchwork, which is sewn by hand.
After introducing you to parchment Valmai will teach you further skills which include making gift envelopes and Calligraphy.
Valmai loves the use of vibrant colours and contracting patterns, and will be showing you how to complete some attractive projects, which, she is sure, will lead you on to further creations when you return home.
Patchwork is the ideal holiday activity as you can carry small sections with you to occupy your leisure time constructively.
The finished items will make novel gifts for your family and friends, in addition to being a perfect way of recycling remnants of fabric.
Do come to the classes, as only very basic sewing skills are involved, and the results are so individual and attractive
