VOYAGE IN SERCH OF THE AURORA BOREALIS

An amazing display of purple, blue, pink and green light dancing across the dark sky of night, the spectacular Aurora Borealis is one of nature’s greatest wonders. This incredible voyage along Norway’s beautiful coastline ventures high above the Arctic Circle where by day you have the opportunity to try your hand at wintry experiences, and by night, if atmospheric conditions are right, you have the chance to witness the incredible Northern Lights.

A canal boat tour is the perfect way to discover charming Amsterdam before Marco Polo sails to Ålesund, Norway’s art-nouveau town. Stroll through streets watched over by gargoyles decorating ornate, gabled and turreted buildings. Enjoy sailing between thousands of islands and islets along Norway’s beautiful coastline, cross the Arctic Circle and view the Svartisen Glacier before calling in Narvik. You might choose to ascend Mount Fagernes by cable car, or meet Polar wildlife at the world’s northernmost zoo. Alta is known as the ‘City of the Northern Lights’ and during an overnight stay you can choose from a host of optional tours. Perhaps take a drink in the frozen bar of the famous Igloo Hotel, or venture away from the city for a chance to witness the Aurora Borealis, a curtain of purples, pinks, blues and greens rippling across the inky dark sky. Next stop is Tromsø where the daring lines of the Arctic Cathedral are matched only by tales of famous Arctic explorers in the city’s museums. Sortland is a gateway to the stunning landscapes of the mountainous Vesterålen Islands, whilst Åndalsnes is your chance to enjoy breathtaking fjord scenery dressed for winter. Finally explore historic Bergen, whose Hanseatic waterfront harbours shops selling traditional Norwegian souvenirs.
