Voyage in search of the Aurora Borealis

Voyage in search of the spectacular Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights and discover the haunting winter landscape as you sail along the Norwegian coastline and across the Arctic Circle. The Northern Lights is one of nature’s wonders - an atmospheric display of blue, green and pink light dancing across the sky that has become a ‘must do’ for so many travellers. You will visit Narvik, Alta and Tromsø which are among the best places in Norway to witness this phenomenon. There is also the opportunity to see Polar wildlife and perhaps visit the unique Igloo Hotel.

Sail to Stavanger, one of Norway’s oldest towns, where the cobbled streets and preserved wooden houses evoke memories of its shipping and fishing heritage. Ålesund is an art nouveau town of gables, turrets and pastel-hued facades.  Visit the Sunnmore Museum for an impressive insight into the region’s past. Crossing the Arctic Circle, view Svartisen Glacier before calling at Narvik which offers the opportunity to ascend Mount Fagernes by cable car or visit the fascinating Polar Zoo. Tonight, there may be the possibility of viewing the spectacular Northern Lights, a curtain of purples, blues and greens rippling across the night sky. An overnight stay in Alta offers an extensive range of optional shore excursions and gives a further opportunity to perhaps witness the breathtaking phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis. Tromsø, on the island of Troms, is known as the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ with its Polar Museum and Wilderness Centre and precedes a call at Åndalsnes which lies amid spectacular mountain scenery in the beautiful Romsdalsfjord. Then, in the delightful Hanseatic city of Bergen, discover its historic Bryggen district of restored wooden warehouses and enticing gift shops.  A final day is spent at sea to reflect on the highlights of this truly stunning voyage
