Short Break around the British Isles

This wonderful short cruise packs a lot into six nights including a taste of Irish history and hospitality, dramatic Scottish landscapes and the beautiful and unspoilt Isle of Man. Make it a restful break with gentle strolls along harbour fronts or take in some fascinating historic and architectural attractions. One thing is sure, after sampling the delights of Discovery and our specially chosen destinations, you’ll want to return!

Historic and vibrant Dublin, Ireland's capital, is your first port of call offering a chance to see St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Ha’penny Bridge, Guinness Storehouse and more. The scenic Isle of Mull is next with its spectacular coastline and rich wildlife. At picturesque Tobermory, original location of the children's television series Balamory, a pretty frontage of hotels, shops and houses wrap around the bay. Capital of the self-governing kingdom of the Isle of Man and set amid rolling hills, Douglas offers a delightful Victorian railway, horse trams and a unique culture. Discover the island’s beauty and gentle pace of bygone times. Finally, the port of Cobh (formerly known as Queenstown), evokes poignant memories of Irish migrants embarking for America and from where Titanic embarked on her ill-fated voyage. Perhaps choose to visit the nearby city of Cork, the beautiful Irish countryside or Blarney Castle for a chance to kiss its famous stone and receive ‘the gift of the gab’.

Krystyna Lamb, has recently retired from almost 40 years of teaching children and adults with severe and complex special needs. In order to teach effectively, Krystyna had to use alternative and unusual teaching methods, as well as making all the resources that she needed, but could not buy. Krystyna enjoyed her job immensely and her background and career has left her with an interest in making and mending things.

Krystyna discovered the world of craft 3 years ago while cruising up The Amazon where she came upon an ‘evening’ bag made entirely from the ‘ring pulls’ from drinks cans. she was amazed, here was a very attractive and useful accessory made from something you would normally throw away. Krystyna collected the ‘ring pulls’ that she needed from the bars on board the cruise ship, bought a crochet hook and some yarn and made a stunning bag. The response from other passengers and crew on seeing the bag was amazing.

On returning home, Krystyna did a lot of research on recycling and some of the things that could be made with materials that would normally be thrown away. Krystyna was very excited and impressed with what she found, and began to collect the materials she needed from relatives, friends, neighbours, local pubs and clubs.

I work with ‘ring pulls’ from drinks and food cans, food packaging, a variety of plastics and paper. I make bags and purses, belts, jewellery, small containers, decorations and cards. What I like about the things I make is that they are unusual, they involve no specialist equipment, they are not difficult to make and because they are from ‘recycled materials’ they are virtually free!!
