Sailing from Avonmouth, enjoy life on board as you sail north around Cape Wrath heading for Norway. You first call at Stavanger, one of Norway’s oldest towns, where the cobbled streets and preserved wooden houses of Gamle Stavanger evoke memories of its shipping and fishing heritage. The next morning, a brief stop is made at the little town of Ulvik which enables those passengers taking the overland tour to Eidfjord to disembark. Cruise the splendid Hardangerfjord with a call at Eidfjord and the option to visit the Nature and Wildlife Centre and Vøringsfossen, probably Norway’s most famous waterfall. Flåm, at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, is the terminus for the Flåmsbana - the famous mountain railway which climbs to a height of 866 metres passing through 20 tunnels. A ride on the Flam Railway could be the highlight of your cruise. Leaving Flåm, Discovery cruises the dramatic Næerøyfjord where, from the ship’s rail, you may view delightful Gudvangen. By contrast, today is spent in the old Hanseatic town of Bergen with its historic Bryggen area and busy harbour-side fish market. Perhaps take the Fløibanen funicular for a spectacular view. Enjoy two relaxing days at sea as you sail home.
