Explore the legendary land of ice and fire
This circumnavigation of Iceland, the legendary ‘Land of Ice and Fire’, will take you to a spectacular country of steaming geysers, geothermal pools, dramatic waterfalls, ice caps and active volcanoes. Enjoy an overnight stay at the fascinating capital of Reykjavik and a call at Lerwick in the scenic Shetland Islands.
|
A day is spent enjoying life on board ship before cruising the waters of the Westmann Islands where you may spot whales from the deck. On to Iceland and Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital, lovingly preserved with wooden houses. Nearby are the stunning Gulfoss Falls and the mineral rich bathing waters of the Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik’s steaming geothermal springs. At Isafjördur the sheer basalt cliff of Latrabjarg rises from the sea, home to puffins and other seabirds. And from Akureyri, there is an awesome landscape of spectacular volcanoes, waterfalls, canyons and geysers to explore. Your final Icelandic stop is the picturesque little town of Seydisfjördur with its nearby Lagarfljot Lake, home to a mythical monster. Tórshavn, in the Faroe Islands, is a unique town where the old part is still made up of small wooden houses covered with turf roofs. Your last call is Lerwick, in the Shetland Islands, gateway to a land of rugged scenery, traditional crafts (including the famous Fair Isle knitwear) and Norse heritage. |
