With its Viking history Lerwick, the capital of the Shetland Isles, is a fascinating stepping-stone as you sail towards Norway. Your first Norwegiaan call is the art nouveau town of Ålesund where streets lined with quirky architecture are a delight to explore. Enjoy a day at sea, during which you will cross the Arctic Circle and have a chance to view the breathtaking Svartisen Glacier from the ship’s rail. An optional tour to visit the Polar Zoo is a highlight from historic Narvik before an overnight stop in Alta, known as the ‘City of the Northern Lights’. You might choose to venture into the wilderness in search of the Aurora Borealis, or take a drink in the ice bar at the unique Igloo Hotel. Tromsø is the gateway from which many famous explorers set off to the Arctic. Visit the elegant Arctic Cathedral or take the thrilling cable car ride to the summit of Mount Storsteinen. Bodø promises dramatic nature with an optional tour to Saulstraumen, the world’s strongest maelstrom.
